Celebrating 50 Years of the IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur

Marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic Ingenieur SL Reference 1832.

IWC Schaffhausen marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic Ingenieur SL Reference 1832 with two limited edition Ingenieur Automatic models, celebrating the enduring legacy of Gérald Genta's groundbreaking 1976 design.

Introduced during a defining era for luxury sports watches, the Ingenieur SL combined technical performance with an integrated bracelet design. Although it was not an immediate commercial success - with only 598 pieces produced between 1976 and 1983 - the model's rarity and bold aesthetic have since earned it a place as one of the most sought-after watches in IWC's history. Find out more.

A Design Icon Reborn

First re-introduced in 2023, the modern iteration of the IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur draws directly from Gérald Genta's original vision.

Signature features including the five-screw bezel, integrated bracelet and highly legible dial have been reinterpreted with contemporary proportions, enhanced comfort and refined finishing.

"With its distinctive and bold design, the Ingenieur SL has shaped both the career of Gérald Genta and the history of IWC Schaffhausen."

Limited Editions for a Milestone Anniversary

To commemorate the anniversary, IWC has introduced the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW328910) and Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW324909), each limited to 1,150 pieces.

Both models feature brushed silver-plated dials inspired by a rare version of the original Ingenieur SL. Rhodium-plated hands and applied hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova® ensure excellent readability, while a commemorative "50" replaces the traditional Ingenieur lightning bolt logo on the dial.

Crafted from stainless steel, the watches retain the collection's renowned integrated bracelet and sculptural bezel secured by five functional screws. Satin-brushed and polished finishes highlight the distinctive character of the design while enhancing its everyday wearability.
